MPEband
(continued)

By Alyce Wilson

Alyce: What was Europe like? How long did you spend there?

It was the place to live for us. We're heading back in December and hopefully again in March and then more and more until we just visit the US.

Alyce: There is an element of theatre to your performance. Is that an influence on anyone in the band, in particular?

Maggi: My mom was very into the theater. She would perform in local
plays and listen to lots of Barbra Streisand. We like to make our live show interesting for the eyes as well as the ears (sometimes.)

Alyce: Does anyone else in the band share Maggi's theatrical influences?

Our part-time tuba player who also plays with the Violent Femmes.

Alyce: Does he really? That's fantastic! How long has he done that? (Or are you teasing me?)

No, seriously, he's been playing with us for about two years now.

Alyce: Who writes the songs and how does that process work?

We all write the songs that make the whole world sing. We write the songs of love and special things.

It's always different: sometimes a jam, sometimes two of us, sometimes solo, sometimes all three.

Alyce: While listening to some of your songs, I could close my eyes and pretend I was at a summer music festival, some place timeless but definitely with a sort of alt-culture feel to it. Have you performed any music festivals? Would you consider doing so?

Pierce: We have performed at many festivals over the years and want to play many, many more. That is the direction we are headed right now.
