Roman Numerals

Liveliest of numbers
now is the Roman
numeral L,
that sits upon
the ground upright,
leaning neither left
nor right.
Of my two score
years and ten,
forty-something
will not come again.
That leaves me only
four or three or none,
should I ever indeed
reach fifty-one.
So, I'll continue
counting on my life
to be lazily, leisurely,
luxuriously full
of strife, just not starting tonight.
