The Living and the DeadDirected by Kristijan Milic, 2007 By Rada Djurica The Living and the Dead merges two war narratives on an imaginary field: a haunted graveyard. It takes place during both the 1990s civil war in Bosnia and during World War II. Both narratives complement each other, and scene after scene joins together in the timeless graveyard. The film depicts the horror of war: the force of fire and the force of death. Croatian director Kristijan Milic's deft blending of genres works on a metaphorical level. Milic is a student of American horror, so The Living and the Dead uses many elements of horror, but ultimately delivers a message on a very different horror: war.
