The Night My Father Remembered
By R.G. Cantalupo

parachuting down

to a forest nailed in snow,

and the foxhole where
three budies slept, fetus-like,

before the snow exploded
and screams froze

in the dismembered trees,

he also remembered
a throbbing behind his eyes,

and waking toward morning
calling Johnny...? Eddie...? Willie...?

and pushing at a body to unpin his legs.
