No one in the history of film had ever auditioned strawberries, but before shooting the highly sensual kitchen scene in Nine 1/2 Weeks, the director sought the most phallic strawberry possible. Imagine the strawberry auditions. A casting director, picking carefully through a box of strawberries: this one too green, this one too misshapen, this one too small. But finally, she finds it, the sexiest strawberry. Watch the scene again if you need proof. Watch as Mickey Rourke pushes that swollen, red strawberry into Kim Basinger's open mouth. Tell me it's not suggestive. If only real adventures with food could be so exotic. My boyfriend and I gave it a try one day, feeding one another strawberries. I kept doubling over in laughter, both because I felt ridiculous and because I couldn't help thinking about that legendary phallic strawberry. Not to mention the fact that, to a girl on a diet, involving food in sex is simply sabotage. I keep wondering, "How many calories are in that chocolate syrup, that whipped cream?" Kim Basinger didn't care about such things. But then again, how could anyone resist the world's sexiest strawberry? Calories be damned. Bring it on, baby. Show me some berry love.
